The desert is best early. Bring more water than you think you need, wear actual trail shoes and tell someone where you are going.
The Resort Trail
The most convenient desert reset. This 1.2-mile moderate trail connects directly to the resort's Four Peaks Lawn, so you can get outside without getting in a car.
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
More than 40 miles of multi-use trails, with options from an easy 3.1-mile loop to serious all-day adventures. Check current park hours and trail conditions before you go.
Papago Park
An easy add-on for arrival or departure day. The sandstone buttes and generally easy trails deliver a lot of desert scenery without committing to a major hike.
